CTD - Information

Many Coloradans of Scottish, Irish, and other Celtic backgrounds contributed to the growth, prosperity, and cultural richness of Colorado. The Colorado tartan is comprised of a pattern and colors symbolic of Colorado's splendor and history.

The beauty of the clear Colorado skies is represented by blue, the pine and spruce that grace the mountains are represented by the cool green of the tartan.

The contrasting colors of lavender and white reflect the granite mountain peaks and the snow that crowns them, the same colors as the State flower, the Columbine.

The color gold signifies the vast mineral wealth that attracted many and served as the State's early economic base. The color red signifies the red sandstone soil from which Colorado gets its name.
